We have been growing dahlias for several years and have tubers available for sale. They are $3.00 each for named varieties and $2.00 each for unnamed varieties.
When and Where to Plant:
Dahlias should be planted in full sun, preferably in an area which receives at least 8 hours of direct sunlight per day.
The soil temperature should be approximately 60 degrees F.
Here in the Puget Sound area, the dahlias should be planted during the first two weeks of May.
Soil
The PH should be around 6 to 6.5. Sprinkling some bone meal into the hole at planting time will increase the phosphorous in the soil.
Low nitrogen fertilizers, such as bloom food or vegetable-type fertilizers, are best.
Dahlias do best in your native yard or garden soil.
Planting
Dig holes approximately 4 to 6” deep and spaced them 18 to 24” apart.
Place tubers into holes so that the eyes are facing up and are covered with soil.
Watering
Before sprouts appear above ground, dahlias do not need any additional watering.
Dahlias should be watered 2 to 3 times per week for at least 30-60 minutes with a sprinkler or more often during dry and warm weather.
